Auditions for Great Comet/Lizard Boy/Lizas Lounge: Nov 16, 17 (6-10p)

Directed by Josh Curtis & Natatlie True

"Bend's Biggest Party"

From the celebrated and award-winning composer Dave Malloy comes Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, an electropop opera based on a scandalous slice of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Young and impulsive, Natasha Rostova arrives in Moscow to await the return of her fiancé from the front lines. When she falls under the spell of the roguish Anatole, it is up to Pierre, a family friend in the middle of an existential crisis, to pick up the pieces of her shattered reputation. Following a critically exalted premiere at Ars Nova in New York City, a subsequent off-Broadway transfer and an acclaimed run on Broadway, this award-winning musical expands the possibilities for the genre with its daring score and bold storytelling.

Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 premiered at Ars Nova in New York City in October 2012, under the direction of Rachel Chavkin. The production later opened on Broadway, premiering at the Imperial Theatre on November 14, 2016

“An indie-rock musical like you’ve never seen before!”

Trevor has become a myth in his hometown: a lonesome outsider dubbed the "Lizard Boy of Point Defiance." As a child, a strange encounter with a dragon turned his skin green and scaly. Now, ashamed of his appearance, he leaves his home only once a year--on Monster Fest the anniversary of the incident (and that's tonight). Nervously, Trevor agrees to a night out with a new guy, Cary, and the two meet Siren--who insists the dragons will return and begs Trevor to join her and fight against them. Can Trevor accept himself and face the dragons? Will he save his city — and his first date?

This funny, quirky, queer, heartbreaking musical is the winner of six San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards. It was nominated for three for Drama Desk awards during its Off-Broadway run, and is fresh off its four-month run at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Auditions for Angels in America Nov 16 (6-10p)

(All Roles Open) Callbacks: Nov 18

Directed by Tyler Andrew Jones

Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes

is a 1991 American two-part play by American playwright Tony Kushner. The two parts of the play, Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, may be presented separately. The work won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Tony Award for Best Play, and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play. Part one of the play premiered in 1991, followed by part two in 1992. Its Broadway opening was in 1993.

The play is a complex, often metaphorical, and at times symbolic examination of AIDS and homosexuality in the United States in the 1980s. Certain major and minor characters are supernatural beings (angels) or deceased persons (ghosts). The play contains multiple roles for several actors. Initially and primarily focusing on one gay and one straight couple in Manhattan, the plot has several additional storylines, some of which intersect occasionally.

In 1994, playwright and professor of theater studies John M. Clum called the play "a turning point in the history of gay drama, the history of American drama, and of American literary culture". It is widely described as one of the greatest plays of the 20th century and of all time.

“Working with John and the Greenhouse Cabaret team on Sweeney Todd was a phenomenal experience. I loved getting to know the Bend area, which is full of incredible local talent. The theater space is uniquely intimate and presented some exciting challenges for me as both a singer and performer. John is a fantastic director who brings his own distinctive twist to every show he takes on. I look forward to seeing what GHC creates in the future and hope to have the pleasure of working with them all again!”
